The Future of Educational Technology
The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project created the award-winning Sugar learning platform and invented a new way of using computers for education. Our project focuses on ensuring that all students at the Gardner Pilot Academy (GPA) obtain ubiquitous access to Sugar, both in the classroom and at home, by providing each with a bootable Sugar USB device.
Sugar on a Stick is a bootable version of Sugar, the software that is the core of the OLPC XO, configured to boot existing computers in school and at the student’s homes.
Sugar Labs and GPA now seek your investment. For a little more than the cost of a 1GB USB stick, or $5, we can bring this innovation to urban school children. The school currently has a computer ratio of 10:1. Donations of used computers, screens, and keyboards as well as sponsors to provide USB sticks will ensure the success of this project. We also seek financial support for miscellaneous equipment, teacher training, and program implementation and evaluation.
